Medicare Part A

Usually, you don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A, as long as you or your spouse has worked 40 quarters (10 years) or more in the US and paid Medicare taxes.

You can buy Part A if you have worked less than 40 quarters; you will pay up to $471.00* per month for your Part A premium.

*Some people pay a higher premium if they don’t enroll when they’re first eligible.

Limitations

Skilled nursing is only covered after a hospital stay of three days and is not covered beyond 100 days per benefit period. 

Hospital stay coverage is limited to 150 days. Days 1-90 reset after a benefit period. Days 90-150 are only covered once in a lifetime. 

Benefit period: Begins when you enter a hospital or SNF and ends after 60 consecutive days out of a hospital or SNF.

Hospitalization – semi-private room and board

First 60 days: $1,484 Deductible

Days 61 – 90: $371 Per Day

Days 91 – 150: (60 lifetime reserve days) $742 Per Day

 

Skilled Nursing Facility – after 3 day inpatient hospital stay

First 20 days: 100% Covered

Days 21 – 100: $185.50 Per Day
